Business of Fashion is reporting that Natalie Massenet is resigning from Net-a-Porter, the e-commerce juggernaut she founded 15 years ago and built into a global powerhouse. Net-a-Porter announced this spring that it would be merging with fellow online giant Yoox, with Massenet set to stay on as chairwoman of the combined company. Update: Net-a-Porter has confirmed her departure in an official statement; Massenet is quoted as saying, “The business I started in 2000 could not be in better shape today. Having joined forces with Yoox Group, the company will be bigger, stronger and superbly well positioned under Federico’s leadership to lead the industry and create the future of fashion. As a continuing loyal customer I will be excited to see the next chapters for this amazing business.”

In a profile in New York’s most recent fashion issue, Massenet seemed to float the possibility of a future for Net-a-Porter without herself in it: “Since the day I started the company, I have thought about what it will take for this business to have momentum and keep going forward regardless of who is in the company.” (“Page Six” made the claim that Yoox/Net-a-Porter CEO Federico Marchetti was displeased with Massenet speaking to the press.)
