Beyond the buttons spotted on many Golden Globes attendees, there hasn’t been much of a fashion-world response to the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris. But the Walter van Beirendonck show on the first day of men’s fashion week in Paris opened with a strong statement. Last season the designer splashed “Stop Racism,” across headdresses as an anti-appropriation statement. This time around, the Antwerp Six alum opened his show with a see-through shirt emblazoned with the slogan “Stop Terrorising Our World.” Van Beirendonck explained to the French newspaper Le Point, “I had already done a collection [called] Stop Terrorising eight years ago [for fall 2006]. I brought back this slogan because of what happened in Paris two weeks ago. Initially, I didn’t want to make statements but when you see what is happening in the world, you must react.”
