Versace Piled On the Cutouts and Glitter

Evidently, Donatella Versace has the same sentiments toward glitter that she does toward diamonds. Those would be very, very positive. The designer’s spring Versace show today was heavy on the sparkle, cutouts, and pop pastels. The designer had fun with Olympic-ring-like circle motifs, X-shaped cutouts, and floating transparent panels that gave her minidresses a hint of space-age verve. Logos were another recurring theme: The house’s Medusa imprint snaked onto the slit of a black skirt and the waistband of a pair of shorts. Think of it as a more earnest take on Jeremy Scott’s ironic Barbie-doll pageant at Moschino: the Versace woman loves to play at being a living doll — no irony necessary.
