The facts: The heir to a Manhattan real-estate fortune, 59-year-old crossdresser Robert "Bobby" Durst, is arrested for the September 2001 stabbing and dismemberment of his 71-year-old Texas neighbor, Morris Black. His remains are found in trash bags in Galveston Bay. Durst is a suspect in two other murders: his 29-year-old wife Kathie Durst disappered 20 years ago and her body was never found; and his lifelong firiend Susan Berman was shot in the head gangland-style in her Los Angeles apartment in 2000. (Berman had been the daughter of a mobster.)
The fugitive: Durst posts the $300,000 bail and runs away. He is a fugitive until November 30, 2001, when he is arrested for shoplifiting in Pennsylvania.
