ABC News national assignment editor Don Ennis will from now on go by Dawn Stacey Ennis, writing on Facebook, “Today I begin anew.” A ten-year veteran of the network, Ennis celebrated at the office on Friday, the New York Post reports: “Co-workers left flowers on her desk, and ABC News President Ben Sherwood wrote her a note of support.” Ennis said in a statement, “I’m overwhelmed by the strong support I’ve received from my coworkers, and I’m looking forward to telling my story when I’m ready.” She is reportedly in the market for a book deal. “Please understand: This is not a game of dress-up, or make-believe,” wrote Ennis, a father of three who is separating from her wife of seventeen years. “It is my affirmation of who I now am and what I must do to be happy, in response to a soul-crushing secret that my wife and I have been dealing with for more than seven years, mostly in secret.” In what is hopefully a sign of the times, even the Post handled this one with respect.
