Mayor Michael Bloomberg will personally donate $250,000 to Planned Parenthood in the wake of the Susan G. Komen foundation’s controversial decision to sever its financial ties with the organization, reports the New York Times. He’s doing it pledge-drive style: The mayor will match every dollar given to the organization up to that amount. $250,000 might be couch-cushion change to him, but not only does it send a strong signal about the mayor’s commitment to women’s health, but it also, in all likelihood, will put Planned Parenthood’s coffers right back at where they were before Komen pulled its annual $700,000.  As of yesterday, the group had received an outpouring of $400,000 in new donations. “Politics have no place in health care,” Bloomberg said in a statement. “Breast cancer screening saves lives and hundreds of thousands of women rely on Planned Parenthood for access to care. We should be helping women access that care, not placing barriers in their way.”
