City Councilman Maybe Went Overboard With Sweatshop Claims
In television ads for city councilman John Liu's city-controller campaign, a narrator claims that from the the tender age of 7, Liu "had to work in a sweatshop to make ends meet." The ad closes with the line "Working in finance taught Liu how to account for every penny, but working in that sweatshop as a kid taught him why we need to." But according to his own parents, Liu worked at home, where he was paid an allowance for helping his mom with her knitting. [Brawl for the Hall/NYDN]
